CHANDIGARH, April 12: Several students of the Master of Finance and Control MFC course of the Punjab University have made representations to the PU authorities and chairperson of the Department of Correspondence Studies DCS, seeking postponement of their exams scheduled to begin on May 3.

On the other hand, those who could not clear the exams after availing of the compartment chance have now sought a mercy chance.

In separate representations made to the PU Vice-Chancellor on April 9 and 12, the MFC students who couldn8217;t clear their re-appear exams have stated that the result was declared on April 9 and with the exams beginning on May 3, very little time is left for preparations. 8220;The first batch enrolled in 1996. They have already spent three years. It will be a great loss if they do not clear their exams,8221; the students plead. The authorities, however, are adamant, saying that MFC is a professional course for which no mercy chance can be allowed.

On the other hand, several other students, in a separate application to the Chairperson of the DCS, Prof Santosh Sharma, have demanded that the exams be postponed on the account that they submitted their assignments on April 5 and that the CA exams scheduled for the first week of May are bound to clash with the MFC exams. 8220;Last year the exams of the MFC II began in July. This year it is too early,8221; said a student.

Says Prof Sharma: 8220;The first batch got this concession. Besides, last year, the last lesson was dispatched in June. This year the dispatches were all sent in March. They should approach the institute for getting their CA exams postponed.8221;

8220;MFC alone is not enough. Though they claim it is a professional course, it does not enjoy that kind of standing, we have to explore other options too,8221; a student adds.
