
JALANDHAR, Jan 18: More than 800 sportspersons will take part in the 43rd Punjab Police Sports and Athletics meet to be held from January 19 to 23 at PAP Headquarters in Jalandhar Cantonment. Internationals Baljit Singh Dhillon, Ramandeep Singh hockey, Satveer Singh, Bahadur Singh, Jagdeesh Bishnoyee, Ramandeep Singh and Sahib Singh athletes will be the star attractions.
According to DIG Rajan Gupta Training PAP competitions will be held hockey, kabaddi, basketball, vollyeball, weightlifting, judo, wrestling, football, handball, boxing and athletics. Director General of Police P C Dogra will inaugurate the meet. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will will be chief guest on January 23.
Punjab team
Punjab Amateur Athletic Association general secretary Isher Singh Deol announced the names of athletic probables who will represent Punjab in the fifth National Games to be held at Imphal from February 14 to 24. The athletes are attending a coaching camp and the final fitness trials will be held on January 31.

Lifters selection
Chandigarh: Punjab Olympic Association secretary general Arvind Khanna has directed the Punjab Weightlifting Association president S K Sinha to send the entries of weightlifters by name immediately. The POA wondered why the PWA was delaying the selection of the team. The apex sports body of the state had already informed its affiliated units the last date January 5 of submitting the accreditation forms.
Hockey meet
Amloh Fatehgarh Sahib: Top teams are taking part in the fifth All India Players Memorial Hockey Tournament being organised by Amloh Sports Club here from January 28 to 31. Deputy Commissioner TR Sarangal will inaugurate the tournament.
In the opening match Punjab University will meet Central Industrial Security Force, Delhi at 11 a.m.
