PM gets IISER, freight corridor off the ground

Noting Punjab was in the forefront of the green revolution, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the state should take the lead in the knowledge revolution sweeping the country as well.

8220;The green revolution was made possible not only because of the efforts of Punjab farmers but also because of excellent research work done by the Punjab Agricultural University,8221; Singh said at a foundation-stone laying ceremony of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research IISER in the newly-created SAS Nagar district. 8220;We need much more of that today8230;our agricultural economy must become more knowledge-based so that we can increase the productivity of farms and incomes of farmers.8221;

Earlier in the day, the prime minister laid the foundation of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor Project and flagged off the Amritsar-Hardwar Janshatabdi Express.
