Dausa MP Sachin Pilot could get an important assignment soon. According to Congress sources, the High Command is keen to replicate the Haryana model in Rajasthan, in which young Randeep Singh Surjewala was appointed Working President of the state Congress headed by Bhajan Lal. Apart from the mature handling of the Gurjjar agitation, Pilot’s popularity among the youth is said to have endeared him to the party brass. But much would also depend on how former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot perceives the possible emergence of a young leadership in the state. They point out how Pilot joined the Gurjjars in condemning police atrocities and demanding their recategorisation as ST, while adroitly reaching out to the rival Meena community at the same time.
