CHANDIGARH, July 26: An employee at the Super Bazar medicine sale counter at the PGI, Kewal Krishan, has been suspended for being in possession of unaccounted-for cash amounting to Rs 23,000.

Even the cash box had an excess amount of Rs 1,762, according to the raiding team, comprising Municipal Commissioner S.K Gathwal, MC secretary Amar Pal Singh, Chief Engineer Purnajit Singh, Chief Accounts Officer H.S. Sood, Super Bazar General Manager S.C. Goel and a member of the Advisory Committee.

As per provisions, employees supervising Super Bazar sale counters must seek prior permission of senior officials before keeping any money with them.

Super Bazar GM S.C. Goel said that Kewal Kishan will remain suspended till the pendency of the inquiry against him. During questioning, Kewal Kishan said that Rs 20,000 of the amount belonged to his friend but his contention did not satisfy the raiding team, it is learnt.

The process of inspection, meanwhile, is likely to be intensified. On July 21, the air samples were found unsatisfactory for starting any surgical procedure. Both OTs on the fourth and fifth floor were supposed to be functional after the summer vacation, on July 16.

Earlier, the same problem cropped up on 5th floor operation theatre and both the OTs had to be closed for about a week. During vacation, one OT is operational while maintenance work goes on in the OT alternatively.
