Good Earth is finally ready. After days of hammering, painting and chaos, the store that sells household goods in the brightest of colours under the sun is sparkling again. And Anita Lal, CEO of this quot;cottage industryquot;, is all set to lay out her new line, Maroc8217;. quot;This collection is based on Morocco. The country is such a beautiful blend of the Oriental, Western, Mediterranean and Mughal. I can identify with it because our roots are alike.quot;

But Morocco is just the quot;inspirationquot; behind these creations. Every Maroc8217; piece that will be put on show at the Good Earth stores in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai will come out of Lal8217;s farm in the capital. That8217;s where a bunch of eight to nine potters have been giving shape to her ideas for the past 15 years. quot;The pots and crockery are the basics of Good Earth, the rest are the accessories. I am 100 per cent involved in the process of creation. You8217;ll always find me in old clothes at my farm. Look at my hands, they are not manicured.quot;

The roots of Good Earth go back to1996 when, tired of carting back attractive things for her house from abroad, Lal decided to try her hand at making them here itself. She had already learnt the ropes from artist Gurcharan Singh. At that time, however, Good Earth was just meant to be quot;one little storequot;. quot;Now, we are selling a lifestyle that revolves around nature and colour. It8217;s about healing homes, homes that are soothing yet vibrant.quot; That is why black has no place in Lal8217;s colour scheme. She does not have a problem wearing black, but is firmly against placing anything in that colour in anybody8217;s house.

quot;I know that my designs are being copied, but I8217;m not worried about that. It8217;s a sign of growth. We have to think of new strategies besides the copyrights that we already have on our designs.quot; So as Good Earth readies to go places 8212; southwards to Bangalore and Goa 8212; Lal is also preparing the ground to get quot;young professionalsquot; into her shops with new products that will be quot;stylish, but simpler and more affordablequot;.
