PATIALA, Sept 27: The PCMS doctors all over the state today launched the first phase of their agitation by holding protest meetings and rallies at various district and tehsil headquarters and resolved to participate in full strength in the dharna planned in Chandigarh on September 30.
In a statement, PCMSA general secretary Dr D.C. Sharma said the PCMS doctors were agitated over the decision of the Punjab government to put doctors and para-medical staff quot;virtually under the control of panchayats, diverting the people8217;s attention from the real issues ailing health servicesquot;. He alleged that the government has so far failed to implement even the recommendations of the Punjab Pay Commission.
PCMSA Patiala district convenor Sampuran Singh said the doctors have been forced to adopt the agitational path due to the recent decision of the Punjab government to authorise village panchayats to check the attendance of doctors and para-medical staff.
