A punter was removed by the Punjab Cricket Association when the Punjab Cricket Association, which issued him accreditation for the second Test here as a free lance journalist, realised that he was gambling on a website from the media box.

The 21-year-old is a British passport holder of Indian origin. Apparently he was placing bets online in a cyber gambling site by the name of betfair.com.

8216;8216;We had issued him the accreditation just moments before the start of the match after seeing his identification card,8221; said PCA secretary G.S.Walia, who is also the media in charge for the second Test.

A journalist had to produce authorisation letter from his or her respective organisation before he or she could be issued accreditation by PCA. But it was a mystery how the 8216;8216;journalist8217;8217; in question got clearance from the association without necessary papers.

He was carrying a laptop equipped with wi-fi technology which enabled him to be online throughout the match. No action was taken against him for the past three days even after some complaints about his unusual working style 8212; he only worked on with numbers on the site 8212; were made. The authorities acted only after a report appeared in a national daily and confiscated his pass and removed him from the stadium.

8220;It was clearly a lapse on my part. I should have been more careful when I had issued him the accreditation,8221; said Walia.
