Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan today quashed all speculation of him aligning with the NDA to fight his pet enemy — the RJD and Laloo Prasad Yadav — by declaring that he would go it alone in the Assembly elections in Bihar and Jharkhand.

‘‘Under no circumstances will the LJP have an alliance or seat adjustment with the NDA or any of its constituents in the forthcoming Bihar and Jharkhand elections,’’ he said here.

Rumours of a tie-up between the LJP and the JD(U) were rife after JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar attended an Iftar hosted by Paswan, but since the JD(U) had decided to stay on in the NDA, there was no question of an alliance, said Paswan. ‘‘The LJP will also fight all seats and continue to remain in the UPA at the Centre. We played an equally important role in the formation of the UPA government as anyone else,’’ he said.

Paswan said there was no question of a split in the anti-Laloo votes since ‘‘it was a question of principles, not of grabbing power’’. According to him, the LJP’s main aim was to develop Bihar and ensure communal and social harmony. ‘‘This is a fight against the RJD’s misrule, and all forces opposed to Laloo Prasad should unite with me.’’

Paswan said CPI leaders D. Raja and Gaya Singh had met him to discuss the situation in Bihar. ‘‘I told them the LJP has no problem with the Left or Congress. The problem is with NDA and RJD,’’ he said.
