Union Fertiliser and Chemicals Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who was here to boost the prospects of Lok Janshakti Party, drew flak of the All Assam Students8217; Union AASU and the Asom Jatiyabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad AJYCP by calling for revival of the controversial Illegal Migrants Determination by Tribunals IMDT Act.

At a party meeting, Paswan said he was in favour of revival of the IMDT Act as the scrapping of the Act had pushed the fate of minorities in Assam into a state of uncertainty. Later, he reiterated this during a press conference without being aware of the reality that even the Congress had reconciled with the fact that the Supreme Court had struck it down in July last year.

8216;8216;The Union Minister has no knowledge of the ground realities in Assam and he has only revealed how unconcerned he is about the nation8217;s security and integrity,8217;8217; said AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya, pointing out that the ill-effects of the IMDT Act was clearly described in the SC verdict.

AASU president Sankar Prasad Roy on the other hand advised Paswan to take all the Bangladeshi infiltrators from Assam and rehabilitate them in his home state Bihar.

8216;8216;If Paswan is so concerned about the Bangladeshi infiltrators, he is most welcome to take them from Assam and keep them in Bihar,8217;8217; Roy said.
