Kulamani Parida believes in playing on his victim8217;s patience before getting him. After being let down by their batsmen on Saturday, Parida rose to the occasion as the defending champions came to grips with their opponents for the first in the Ranji Trophy game this season. At stumps on the second day, the hosts were 53/2, a lead of 162.

Earlier, going to lunch at 51/2 Gujarat looked comfortable against the hosts. But things changed rapidly, as the visitors folded making mere 79, with Parida claiming five. Using the crease to greater effect, the offie showed his variations to force the Gujarat batsmen into errors.

Parthiv Patel was his first victim. Soon after the procession started and when Parida had his third victim, Siddharth Tirvedi, the spinner had reched a personal milestone 8212; his 100th victim 8212; at the Karnail Singh Stadium.

Brief scores: Railways 188 and 53-2 vs Gujarat 79 K Parida 5-16, Madan Yadav 2-10, Sunjoy Bangar 2-5.
