The term of the Parliamentary Committee on the Women8217;s Reservation Bill was extended on Tuesday so that the panel would get more time to hold consultations with various parties and groups before submitting its report.
Sources said the panel is still to receive the views of the main parties on its recently-circulated formula that could have ended the 12-year-old stalemate on the issue of women8217;s reservation in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas.
The formula recommended that it should be left to the state legislatures to propose adequate representation in the Vidhan Sabhas and the Lok Sabha for Other Backward Class OBC citizens and women.
When contacted, Congress Member of Rajya Sabha E M Sudarsana Natchiappan, who heads the panel, said the committee would submit its final report after getting all parties to agree to either the new formula or some other mechanism. The term of the committee ended on August 4.
