MOGA, Aug 3: To commemorate the golden jubilee of country8217;s independence, the Parachute Field Regiment of the Army will launch 8220;Operation Sehat8221;, a medical programme, on August 5 and 6.

Stating this here today, Commanding Officer, 9 Field Regiment, said that free medical check-up camps would be organised to provide health care to ex-servicemen and the poor and needy people of Landheke and Dosanj villages. Also free medical advice will be provided by the Army doctors.

Brigadier S. S. Malik will inaugurate 8220;Operation Sehat8221; which is part of 8220;Operation Sehyog8221; already launched by the Army for the welfare of the people. Under this unique programme, free medical advice, medical care and free medicines will be provided to the rural poor and needy throughout August.

A free eye operation camp will also be organised by the Army doctors in October.

Irrigation programmes: The Punjab government has taken of number of steps for the development and prosperity of the kandi areas. It has constructed 66 kacha dams on various choes and brought an additional area of 7,500 acres under irrigation through underground pipes, state Agriculture Minister Gurdev Singh Badal, said at Madoke, near Moga, on Friday.

The state government has also formulated another programme which has already been launched to bring 2,500 acres area under irrigation in kandi areas through hydro-irrigation scheme costing Rs 1.50 crore.
