Mumbai, Jun 14: The Economic Offences Wing of the crime branch recently arrested one person on charges of duping Kajaria Ceramics Ltd of Rs one crore.

Mini Kapoor, who claimed to be a partner in the Mayfair Trading Corporation, had bought ceramics tiles worth Rs one crore from Kajaria Ceramics, a Delhi-based manufacturer of ceramic tiles. Though Mayfair is the authorised dealer for Kajaria in Mumbai, Kapoor had allegedly placed orders on behalf of three other dealership firms 8211; Mehta Construction, Gayatri Enterprises and Kairon Associates 8211; which turned out to be bogus.

On June 2, the Kandivali police were baffled when they found a dead body at Charkop creek. The only information available from eyewitnesses was that a light commercial vehicle was moving in the area suspiciously, said invetigating officer sub-inspector Deepak Phatangare.

The vehicle was soon traced at Borivali. However, the driver Balwant Shelar 43, a resident of Charkop, was missing since June 2 and neighbour said that he left for his native home near Pune.

Balwant Shelar was soon traced at his native home at Rajguru Nagar and it did not take long for the police to make him confess to his crime.

Investigations have revealed that Balwant8217;s elder brother Hanumant 50 fell for his in-law Gangubai after her daughter was married to her paramour8217;s son. The fell in love immediately after the marriage.

However, Gangubai8217;s husband Santosh Nawle came to know about the illict relationship and warned his wife to desist getting more entangled in the affair. Matter came to the head when the two lovers could not restrain themselves, said PSI Phatangare.

Finally, Hanumant, Balwant and Gangubai hatched a plot to kill Santosh. The deceased, a farmer from a village near Pune, was tricked to come to the city under the some pretext and they stayed at Charkop.

On the night of June 2, as per the plot the trio ensured that Santosh was heavily drunk. They huddled him into a tempo and drove towards the creek.

Little was Santosh aware that they were infact planning to killing. Once near the creek, they pushed him from the vehicle and stoned him to death.

The case is being investigated under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Kiran Shelar and Senior Inspector Suhas Patil. The other members of the squad are S G Talekar, A Kharat and C Kashit.
