A protocol gaffe turned the inaugural function of the Baglihar project humiliating for many political leaders of the state, including National Conference president and MP Omar Abdullah, who was seen leaving the function in a huff. The leaders were reportedly not given seats on the podium along with the Prime Minister.

This happened as Singh was unveiling the inauguration plaque. When the PM and other dignitaries moved towards the podium, Omar Abdullah was seen leaving. Two ex-MLAs of his party, Sajjad Kitchloo and Dr Chaman Lal, followed suit. It took everyone no time to realise why Omar left. G H Mir and Tarigami, who also did not get a seat, left without hearing Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi.
