The wife of former additional advocate general of Punjab, Krishna Kumar Goyal, was allegedly strangled to death during a robbery at her house in Mohali Monday night.
According to the police, the victim, Ashok Kumari, 66, resided in Phase-5. At the time of the incident, Goyal was said to be in Muscat.
Dilpreet Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), Mohali City, said preliminary investigations suggest that the assailants entered the house to rob the residents. “The attackers first tied up the domestic help in the house before strangling the woman. They later fled after taking cash and jewellery,” he said. Officers are still determining how much gold and cash was taken from the house.
Following the incident, police and forensic teams rushed to the spot and launched a probe. The police said several crucial clues are being examined and the investigation may take time.
The role of the domestic help, Neeraj, 25, who has been working with the family for nearly 12 years, is being probed. He has been taken into custody for questioning. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas.
