
It8217;s raining trouble for B I S Chahal, the controversial media adviser to former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. The police today booked him for cheating on a complaint filed by Kanwaljit Singh, a Mohali-based caterer. The caterer, a one-time friend of Chahal, accused him of not paying him Rs 15 lakh for undertaking some renovation work at his house in Patiala.
Meanwhile, police personnel from Ludhiana seized four guns from his residence here today. Chahal was brought to his house for effecting these recoveries. Only his lawyers were allowed to accompany a frail looking Chahal inside. His family was not home.
Ludhiana SP Harish Kumar told The Indian Express that they had seized four licenced weapons8212;a revolver, two pistols and a .12-bore gun. He claimed that as per Chahal8217;s statement these were the weapons used to threaten Kartar Singh. He has been booked in an attempt to murder case in this regard.
Meanwhile in Ludhiana, Subhash Catty of the People For Animals submitted a complaint against Chahal accusing him of possessing three elephant tusks, two shahtoosh shawls, two heads of stuffed stags and various furniture made using elephant tusks in violation of the Wildlife Act. Catty said he got this information under RTI Act from Divisional Forest Officer, Patiala, in March this year.
Transfer case to CBI, Chahal moves HC
CHANDIGARH: Apprehending other criminal cases by Punjab Police and the Vigilance Bureau, BIS Chahal, filed a civil writ petition pleading for transfer of the attempt to murder case registered against him on June 10 to the CBI and quashing of the remand order. The case will come up for hearing on Thursday.
Chahal8217;s counsel Karanbir Singh Nalwa said: 8220;My client is being stripped, tortured and interrogated by the Punjab Vigilance Department, while he is supposed to be in the custody of the Punjab Police. He is even taken to CIA staff at odd hours for interrogation, which is illegal.8221; He also pleaded that in case Chahal is required to be arrested in any other case, the investigating agency should give at least one week8217;s notice and take prior permission from the Punjab and Haryana High court.
