
CALCUTTA, March 3: As many as 137 golfers have already confirmed their participation for the Indian Open at the Royal Calcutta Golf Course this year. The 300,000 tournament will get underway from March 11 with the pro-am event being held a day earlier.
The list of foreigners which runs over 100 includes Gerry Norquist, who won the Malaysian Open this time and Stephen Lindshog, the Myanmar Open champion. Norquist is quite familiar with the course, having visited the Royal Calcutta Golf Club a number of times. Lindshog is also the winner of the Asian PGA tour qualifying school event.
Apart from defending champion Feroz Ali, the Indian challenge will be led by former champion Ali Sher of Delhi, who had won the event in 1991 and 1993, both the times in Delhi, Jyoti Randhawa, Vijay Kumar, Basad Ali.
