NEW DELHI, Jan 8: All three names nominated by the governing body of Aurobindo College (evening) for the principal's post were rejected by the apex committee yesterday. The post has been advertised for the third time now. The rejected nominations were those of Kusum Lata, Bimlesh Yadav and V.K. Batra. They were selected by the governing body but their names were sent back by the Vice-Chancellor, following which an apex body meeting was scheduled. All the three candidates were interviewed by the apex body and subsequently the names were rejected. The college has been without a principal since early 1995. Presently, Bimlesh Yadav is the officiating principal. Kusum Lata has objected to this saying that being the senior-most teacher she deserved the post and has also filed a case in the High Court. The selection for this post has been mired in controversy ever since the selection committee sent the panel of names to the governing body. There was hectic lobbying for the candidates. The staff association ofthe college has alleged that the delay in filling the post has been perpetrated by the chairman of the governing body, Shanti Desai, to ensure that his favoured candidate Bimlesh Yadav is selected. The selection committee had suggested the names of Hariom (Aurobindo College) and Prakash Veer Khatri (Swami Shraddhanand College). These names were apparently rejected by Chairman Shanti Desai and Bimlesh Yadav's name was put forth. What followed was a number of meetings, string-pulling and re-advertising of the post on April 14, 1997. That was the second time the post was advertised.Following this, the final panel was sent which has now been rejected by the apex body. Representatives of the apex body include the Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, two executive council members, chairman of the governing body and the Visitor's nominee.
