The Election Commission on Friday said the constituent assembly polls slated for June are likely to be postponed. 8220;It is technically impossible to hold the elections by June,8221; Chief Election Commissioner Bhojraj Pokhrel said.

As part of a landmark peace deal reached between Nepal8217;s mainstream political parties and the former rebels last year, the Himalayan nation was due to go to polls on June 20.

Pokhrel said the date set by the government is just over 60 days away, and the CEC have already told the government that at least 110 days are required to prepare for the election after necessary legislation has been passed.

Also, the peace and security situation has not yet improved in the country, he added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister G P Koirala summoned an emergency meeting of the cabinet on Friday morning to discuss the issue .
