Nepal Communists want King146;s impeachment

The Communist Party of Nepal-UML, the second largest party in the parliament, tabled a motion on Sunday to amend the interim constitution to enable the House to move an impeachment motion against King Gyanendra.

The Communist Party of Nepal-UML, the second largest party in the parliament, tabled a motion on Sunday to amend the interim constitution to enable the House to move an impeachment motion against King Gyanendra.

The Maoists and the Nepali Congress criticised UML8217;s proposal. CPN-Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai slammed the communist party for favouring to keep ceremonial monarchy alive at a time when efforts are on to abolish monarchy.

8220;We are surprised to learn that the UML has dashed a separate proposal to impeach the monarch,8221; Nepali Congress general secretary Ramchandra Poudyal said. 8220;The UML has brought the proposal unilaterally.8221;
