Akbarally’s, a leading departmental store in the city, was robbed of over Rs 53 lakh on Friday night. The robbers entered the shop by breaking open its windows and grills and made off with gold ornaments, diamonds, cameras, walkman, among other things. The MRA Marg police station has registered a case.

Robbers stab to death one at Kurla

One person died following a robbery attempt at Kurla early Saturday morning. Shamshad Sheikh and two others were on their way to Sion at 4.15 pm this morning when at Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Kurla, two unidentified persons robbed them at knife point and took Shamshad’s watch worth Rs 300 and Rs 50 cash. The trio tried to stop the robbers, but in the scuffle one Jinkhan Yadav, who was along with Shamshad, was stabbed. He died before being admitted to a hospital.

Trains diverted due to repair work

On account of work between Santacruz and Borivali, there will be a mega block on the Up fast line at Vile Parle stationbetween 1.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Sunday. Therefore, all trains will be diverted to the slow track. Some local trains will be cancelled – the list of which is available with station masters between Churchgate and Virar. Another block has been created on the Up fast line between Goregaon and Santacruz between 1.30 pm and 6.30 pm for track maintenance.

The police have launched a hunt for the Chhota Shakeel hitman who escaped during a combing operation at Juhu on Friday evening. The police suspect the two hitmen could be involved in a spate of shootouts in the western suburbs since last year. The duo escaped under the cover of darkness in a white Maruti van.
