Aug 5: As part of the cleanliness drive, the BMC8217;s N-ward will be collecting garbage from slum areas in a handcart with bell. The bells are to announce the arrival of the garbage pick-up truck. The idea was mooted by Vinod Raghavan, president of Yuva Janata Janata Party and accepted by N-ward officer G R Mirani, who will inaugurate the scheme on August 7 at Chirag Nagar.

Free checkup

A free medical checkup exclusively for the children of Nehru Nagar slum in Vile Parle West will be held at the welfare health centre of K-west ward on August 10 between 9.30 am to 4 pm. The free checkup organised by Vijaya Bank and Rotary Bank of North Island in commemoration of India8217;s 50 years of independence is expected to cover over 500 children and will include distribution of free medicine.
