Governor Dr PC Alexander inaugurated an AIDS awareness counselling centre, free dialysis centre and computerised stress test Machine on December 6 at Lion Tarachand Bapan Hospital amp; Research Centre, a permanent project of Lions Club of Sion. On this occasion, the governor handed over 5 ambulances received from the Diwaliben Mohanlal Mehta Charitable Trust and Lions of Sweden. Lion Ashok Mehta, Chairperson Emeritus, spoke on expansion plans for medical activities conducted at this hospital. Medical Director Dr R Kenkre gave the vote of thanks. Mahendra Parikh seen in picture handed over a cheque of Rs 11,00,000 in aid of the hospital to the governer.
Hawkers8217; plea
The Bombay Hawkers Union BHU has refused to pay up cleanliness charges to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, and has said if they are not allowed to conduct business, three lakh hawkers will go on strike.The BMC has been collecting cleanliness charges from 22,000 hawkers till now. A survey reveals that at least 1,30,000 hawkers, have receipts of paid charges. The BHU demand the abolition of these charges. They have planned a huge rally to Mantralaya in the first week of January.
Aptitude tests

Gold recovered
Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit of customs, Sahar airport recovered gold bars weighing nearly 22 kg from the toilets of an Air India flight which arrived from Dubai on December 24. The gold, worth more than Rs 90 lakh, was concealed under the wash basins in the toilets.
