
Youth shot dead at Mahim
MUMBAI, April 23: A youth, allegedly an Ashwin Naik associate, was shot dead by an unidentified assailant at Mahim on Thursday. At around 5 am, 21-year-old Nilesh Bijumal Krishnani had left his Navjivan Society residence at Mary Road, Mahim, on his scooter. When he reached Dharavi crossing, an unidentified person opened fire at him at point blank range. The bullet got lodged in Krishnani8217;s neck and he fell off his scooter. While the assailant escaped on foot, Krishnani was rushed to K E M hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon. The Mahim police said Krishnani himself had several cases registered against him. A .22 Spanish pistol and three rounds were recovered from the boot of Krishani8217;s scooter.
Special trains for teachers
Two additional trains to Varanasi for teachers on the Central Railway will leave Mumbai on May 2. These trains will be fully reserved for berths in sleeper class and seats in the general class compartments. They willleave Kurla terminus at 00.30 and 1 am on the morning of May 2. Reservations will be available from 2-7 pm on April 26. Due to this, the teachers8217; special scheduled to leave on May 1 will now be open to the public. Reservations will be available from April 25.
Ramakrishna Mission8217;s appeal
The Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Society, Jamshedpur, has appealed for funds to construct new buildings for the schools it runs in Bihar. The society had recently started five English medium schools in Jamshedpur, and it has appealed for funds to construct new buildings for these schools.
