BEST workers8217; indefinite stir

Casual workers of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport BEST undertaking have launched an indefinite strike to press for the demands of permanent appointment and implementation of the equal wage for equal work8217; policy by the management.

According to a Bombay Electric Workers8217; Union press release, the workers will hold a rally outside BEST Bhavan at Colaba on June 2 to chart out their future action plan. The workers had carried out a demonstration at Azad Maidan and later handed over memoranda to the municipal commissioner and the mayor on May 26. The decision to go on an indefinite strike was taken at a meeting held at Vanmali Hall, Dadar, on Saturday. The workers will also hold a rally at Wadala bus depot on May 31 as part of the agitation.

Talk on career opportunities

The Forum of Free Enterprise has arranged a session on 8220;Career Opportunities in the 21st Century8221; from 9.30 am to 2 pm on June 6 at SIES school, near King Circle railwaystation, K A Subramanian Road. The session will provide information on career opportunities in information technology and self-employment in the informal sector. Tata Consultancy Services manager Training Suresh Mhatre and entrepreneur Dilnawaz Shroff will comprise the two member expert panel. Train delayed due to snag

A minor technical snag in the Mumbai-bound Rajdhani Express caused a two-hour delay as the train was forced to halt at Virar station on Sunday morning.

At around 9.40 am on Sunday, the pentagraph above the engine caught fire, according to railway officials. Noticing the sparks and smoke, the Rajdhani motorman immediately stopped the train at Virar station. By 11.30 am, another engine was brought in to take the train to Mumbai Central station. However, officials added none of the other train schedules were upset due to this delay.

Polls to officers8217; association

The All-India ReserveBank Officers Association held their conference at CAB-Pune last week and elected Narinder Pal Singh Delhi and LR Parab Mumbai respectively as president and general secretary.
