President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to Jalandhar in Punjab on Friday was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, officials confirmed. The President was to attend the 21st convocation ceremony of Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, as the chief guest.

During the event, the President was supposed to award degrees to 1,452 students from various programmes, including BTech, MTech, MBA, MSc, and PhD. In addition, 31 meritorious students were to receive gold medals from the President for their outstanding academic performance.

According to the NIT administration, President Murmu’s presence was meant to inspire young graduates and encourage them to contribute to technological innovation and nation-building. However, poor visibility and safety concerns arising from unfavourable weather led to the cancellation of the visit.
