Jawan killed at Navy Nagar

A 35-year-old army jawan was killed in a head-on collision with a speeding water tanker inside the restricted military zone of Navy Nagar on Sunday night.

Naik Hayat Singh of the Kumaon Regiment was cycling near the Army Supply Depot when a private water tanker coming from the opposite side hit him, killing him instantly. According to defence officials, the tanker was supplying water to the Ganeshmurthi Nagar hutments in the area. This is the second fatal accident this year in the defence cantonment. In January this year, a 21-year-old cyclist was run over by a speeding mini van.

Taxi driver shot dead

A 45-year-old taxi driver was shot dead at Kamathipura this evening. At around 7.30 pm, Mohammed Ibrahim Khan was at the junction of Bapti Road and Ist Kamathipura Road when four unidentified gunmen accosted him and pumped him with bullets, said the police. Khan was rushed to JJ Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. According to the police, Khanwas a small-time informer.
