Dhurat and director Vinay Apte, are scheduled to meet the Chief Minister on Thursday. Referring to the lifting of ban on the film Fire, Dhurat told Express Newsline, 8220;My play was banned to maintain law and order. The ban on Fire has been lifted despite the fact that it was banned for the same reasons. There cannot be different rules for different people.8221;

The producer, who faxed his appeal to the CM8217;s office this morning, has also sought police protection for his cast and the shows.

Dhurat has also faxed letters seeking a review of the ban on his play to several leaders including Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Pramod Mahajan, Sonia Gandhi, Sharad Pawar and also to President K R Narayanan. He has however kept the option of going to court open should the stategovernment 8220;not do justice8221;. 8220;I have kept a writ petition ready. That is my only resort. I can file it any moment,8221; he added.

Course in rubber technology

A two-year full-time course in rubber technology will be conducted for the first time in the state at the Government Polytechnic, Bandra. The course is to be conducted as per a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the state government and the All India Rubber Industries Association AIRIA. Students should have passed Standard 12 to join the course, which will also include compulsory training in the industry for six months. Legal luminaries to be honoured

The Bar Association of India, the apex Body of the Bar Associations in India, will hold a function to honour legal luminaries Nani Palkhivala and J M Thakore on February 27. The function will be held on 11.15 am in the Regal Room, Hotel Oberoi Towers, Nariman Point.

While Padma Vibhushan Palkhivala is an eminent jurist who has appeared in cases decided by the Supreme Court of India involving constitutional rights, Thakore has been serving as Advocate General of Gujarat from 1960.8211; Newsline reports
