The driver said his family lost Rs 13–14 crore during Covid, and a later business failed too.
What began as an ordinary bike ride quickly turned into a deeply moving experience after a tech professional shared a conversation with his Rapido rider, whose life was upended by the Covid-19 pandemic. The story was posted on X by user @0xChiraag, who wrote, “I was on a Rapido bike today, just a normal ride. Out of nowhere, he started telling me his story.”
At first, the ride felt routine. The driver made small talk, asking where the passenger lived and which college he had studied at. But within minutes, the conversation took an unexpected turn as the rider began opening up about his own past.
He spoke about studying hotel management at Amity and recalled how comfortable life once was. His father served in the Army, the family ran successful businesses, and money was never a worry. “Life was good back then,” the driver told him.
That stability, however, disappeared when the pandemic hit. According to the post, the driver said his family lost nearly Rs 13–14 crore as businesses shut down during Covid. Every attempt to recover fell apart. Later, he tried starting a new venture with a friend, but that too collapsed, costing him another Rs 4 lakh.
Eventually, there was nothing left to fall back on. “No savings left. All I had was this bike,” the driver said, explaining why he signed up as a Rapido rider just to get by.
Despite everything, his resolve stood out. “I’m not giving up. I still believe in God,” he told the passenger, a moment that left Chirag shaken. He shared that the driver broke down in tears while riding. “Man, I didn’t know what to say,” he wrote, adding that he sat quietly, trying to process it all. “It hit me. Life really is unfair sometimes.”
Life is so unfair, man.

The post struck a chord online, with many users reflecting on how brutally the pandemic changed lives. One person commented, “Everyone has their own story, some are good, some are bad, based on the path they have travelled or circumstances told them to do so.” Another wrote that losing so much and starting over as a bike taxi rider was heartbreaking, but added that someone who once built a big business might rise again with the right support.
Others echoed the emotional weight of the story. “Damn… Covid was really something else man. Fked up everything,” one user said. Another pointed out the lack of a safety net, noting that “in any other country he would have some safety net.”
