BBC playwright competition

MUMBAI, November 18: The British Council Division BCD and the BBC have invited entries for their sixth international playwright competition. Professional and amateur writers can submit an original radio play and win a trip to London to see their work recorded and a cash prize of 2,000 sterling. HT cartoon contest

The Hindustan Times has d organised its 12th cartoon Contest 8217;98 at Bajaj Art Gallery, Bajaj Bhawan, Nariman Point upto November 29. The competition, whose theme was Metrolife8217;, was judged in New Delhi by a panel of personalities including P A Sangma, Prannoy Roy, Abu Abraham and Sudhir Tailang.

Bengali play at Birla Kendra

One killed in Malad

One person was killed when he was attacked with an iron rod at Malad on Tuesday. Police said Shashikant Upadhyay 25, resident of Dahisar east went to Reddy Chawl in Konkan Pada, Malad east to beat up Prabhakar Loke 25. However, Shashikant himself got beaten up with an iron rod. He was rushed to Bhagwati hospital where he was declareddead on admission. Loke has been arrested.

Clean-up drive at railway stations

Two corporate groups and non-governmental organisations today adopted six suburban railway stations under a model project for a clean environment launched by the Mumbai Sheriff. The project was kicked off by Sheriff Kulwant Singh Kohli at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus with a anti-spitting8217; campaign this morning.

Law to protect small investors

The state government today assured the Bombay High Court that it would enact a legislation to protect small investors who have placed their monies in collective investment schemes. Following this the court disposed off the petition seeking action against 3,599-odd plantation companies which have allegedly siphoned off Rs 25,000 crore by way of public. deposits/funds.
