Former vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after he fell unconscious twice on January 10, officials said.

The 74-year-old Dhankhar, who had made news after his sudden resignation on the first day of Parliament, will undergo an MRI, the officials said on Monday.

On January 10, the former West Bengal governor experienced “two bouts of unconsciousness” when he went to the washroom, they said.

“Today, he had gone to AIIMS for a checkup when the doctors insisted that he should get admitted for tests,” an official told PTI.

Past health scares

This isn’t the first time that Dhankhar’s health has faced scrutiny. The lawyer-turned-politician had apparently blacked out on multiple occasions in the past. This included his visit to the Rann of Kutch, Uttarakhand, Kerala and the national capital while attending public events as the vice president, an official said.
