Editor alleges assault

  • The editor of Sanj Dinank Diwakar Shejwal has alleged that he was assaulted and confined in a room by supporters of the Republican Party of India leader Ramdas Athawale on Monday at the Borivli police station.At a press conference, Shejwal said the supporters, along with the help of local policemen, confined him in a room in the police station and asked him to apologise for a story he had carried in his newspaper. He has complained to chief minister Manohar Joshi and requested for an investigation into the matter.
  • Easier forex for students

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday relaxed guidelines with regard to release of foreign exchange to students studying abroad by asking dealers to make payments for more than six months and in one or more installments. Moreover, those studying in Russia or other CIS countries now have the option of carrying forex, for a period not greater than one year, in currency form. The RBI, in a release, said exchange for a period greater than six months may be released on production of a letter from a university or institution demanding payment of fees for the full term.
  • Mill worker found murdered

  • The body of a mill worker with multiple stab wounds was found by the police at Wadala on early Wednesday. The R A Kidwai Marg police later identified the murder victim as Rajnikant Krishna Gajmal (26). Some residents of the R A Kidwai Nagar compound noticed the body lying in an open ground nearby at around 8.30 am and immediately informed the police. Gajmal was stabbed by a sharp weapon in the neck, abdomen and several other parts. However, no arrests have been made.
