
SI shoots at colleague
MUMBAI, July 22: A tiff between two allegedly drunk sub-inspectors ended in one shooting the other at Andheri on Wednesday night.
Said police sources, sub-inspector Garad and his colleague Shinde of Crime Branch Unit III, allegedly drunk, tried to intervene in a minor squabble in a bar. Garad allegedly whipped out a revolver when Shinde tried to pacify him but the bullet hit Shinde who was admitted to J J hospital, the sources said. Both the cops face suspension, a top official said.
Mobile phone robber held
The Oshiwara police today arrested a shop-lifter allegedly involved in selling cellular phones as grey mobile8217; in the clandestine market. Police caught Jalil Ahmed while trying to lift a mobile phone from a shop at Andheri this afternoon while his two associates Sarfaraz and Nattu managed to escape and the fourth member of the gang is yet to be identified, according to sub-inspector D Mane. Mane said the gang stole phones from shops and sell them in theclandestine market as grey mobile8217;. Since no receipts or documents were required while selling the phones it was difficult to detect the crime, said Mane.
UMC chief appointed
A D Kale has been appointed as commissioner of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation. According to Mantralaya sources, he will take charge this week.
MTNL bill payment date
The last date for payment of STD and PCO bills dated July 10, 1998, for telephone numbers with 340, 346, 368, 372, 374 and 380 has been wrongly given as July 27. The last date is actually July 23.
Financial mgmt course
The University of Mumbai will introduce a three-year Master8217;s Degree in Financial Services Management8217; course from August this year.
Besides core subjects like financial accounting and financial management, the degree will offer specialised subjects like business environment, research methodology, investment management, security analysis and portfolio management, tax planning, and international banking.
Thefirst batch for this course will constitute 60 students, and the fees are Rs 15000 a year.
Besides the above degree, the institute will continue to offer a one-year post graduate part-time Diploma in Investment Studies DIS. Admissions to both the above courses have opened on July 17, and will close on July 31. A graduate in any stream of learning can apply for admissions to either of the courses. Clarification
The management of the Dew Drops Public School in Khari Gaon, Bhayander E have clarified that it is a preparatory school and does not require registration with the educational authorities.
Referring to the report 8220;Unauthorised schools play transfer8217; game8221; EN, June 16, which stated that 23 schools in the Mira-Bhayander area had not registered with the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Council, the management said the school mentioned in the report8217;s list is a different school.
