Extra berths

MUMBAI, January 5: The Central Railway has introduced AC two tier accommodation (46 berths) on the Mumbai Bhubaneshwar sector on the 1019 down Mumbai-Bhubaneshwar Konarak Express from January 5 and on the up train from January 7. Booking is available at all computerised reservation counters. The train will also have 17 coaches instead of 16.

Upanaynam

Laughter Day

The Andheri’s Laughter Club International will celebrate World Laughter Day on January 11 at the Mahalakshmi race course. Said Dr Madan Kataria, founder president of the club, 5,000-7,000 members will march from Worli Seaface to the Race Course Grounds and laugh together. The guests of honour include actor Dilip Kumar, painter M F Husain, police commissioner Ronnie Mendonca, former sheriff Nana Chudasama and present sheriff Sohan Singh Kohli. Exhibition

A regional-level science exhibition will be held between January 7 and 9 at St Xavier’s High School, L T Marg. The winning exhibits at the exhibition have been chosen from 18 wards during the month of December 1997 on the main theme `Science and Technology in Communication’, along with sub-themes agriculture, Industry, Transport and communication and educational technology.

Holidays

The present scheme of holidays on second and fourth Saturdays to civic office staff has been extended till March 31, 1998.The Mumbai Mahanagarpalika Karyalayeen Karmachari Sanghatana, representing the office staff, has been demanding continuation of the scheme. It has been holding protest and dharnas in front of the muncipal headquarters for the last 15 days against discontinuation of the scheme. The sanghatana will continue to demand that the scheme be extended on a permanent basis, said a release.
