Vaitarna lake overflows

Incessant rains for the last two days has resulted in the Modak Sagar Vaitarna lake, which supplies potable water to Mumbai, overflowing since early Friday. Last year this lake started overflowing from August 3, civic sources said, adding that the other three lakes 8211; Vihar, Tansa, Tulsi and Upper Vaitarna have yet to reach the overflowing level.

Reservation centre at Palghar

A computerised passenger reservation centre was opened at Palghar station of Mumbai Central division, on Western Railway on Friday. This is the 14th computerised passenger reservation centre on Mumbai Central division.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 18 lakh, rail users can book/reserve tickets for any station from this centre. Palghar is a taluka in Thane district with a population of 3.25 lakh and directly linked with rail and road routes to Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mumbai. There are a number of large and small scale industries like steel engineering, pharmaceuticals and chemicals located inand around Palghar. Earlier, in absence of a reservation centre passengers had to go either to Virar or Vapi.

MRVC to focus on harbour line

n OPTIMISATION of harbour line operation is one of the measures to develop the railways in Mumbai as well as its suburbs and has been given priority in the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation MRVC set up recently, union minister of state for railways Ram Naik said today. Addressing reporters at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh, Naik said more rakes would be included in the present number on the harbour line with a view to develop this sector.

NCP protests toll at Dahisar naka

Several members of the Nationalist Congress Party and its youth wing were held by police today and later released when they allowed almost 100 vehicles to pass through the Dahisar check-naka without paying toll. Almost a thousand workers of the party protested at the check-naka for over an hour demanding scrapping of toll at Dahisar and Mulundcheck-nakas.
