List ecology in Ninth Plan: BNHS

In a letter to Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jaswant Singh, the President of the society B G Deshmukh, who was a former cabinet secretary, said ecological security should be given the same importance in the national thinking as other basic objectives like removal of poverty, population control and economic development.

Emphasising that economic growth and development go hand in hand with safeguards for environmental protection, Deshmukh said, 8220;Without ecological security firmly woven into the planning process, there cannot be any sustainable development of any nation.8221;

Coupons CR from today

The coupon validating machines CVM on the Central Railway CR for the suburban trains on main and harbour line will start from Saturday. The CVM will be inaugurated at a ceremony at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus by minister of state for railways Ram Naik. The Western Railway WR introduced the CVM couple of years back, however, commuters havebeen complaining that the utility of the system is maximum when it starts on the CR also. A CR spokesperson said that initially 30 CVMs will be introduced at selected station and later will be expanded in a phased manner.
