
Hanuman temple looted
A gang of robbers looted a Hanuman temple at Malvani last night, escaping with booty estimated to be worth Rs 71,200.
Among the items robbed are Hanuman8217;s dress, carved in silver and weighing nearly five kilograms, silver paduka, a colour television, a video recorder, a video player, a tape recorder and cash worth Rs 4000, the Malvani police informed. According to the police, the priest of the temple, Jayant Nathuram Purav, left the temple premises near Pathare Gulli at around 12.30 pm. When he came back early in the morning, he found the items in the temple missing.The Malvani police have registered a case under Sections 379 and 114 of the Indian Penal Code. No arrests have been made so far, the police confirmed.
Essar manager looted
Two unidentified men looted a manager of a firm of Rs 5 lakh, which was to pay the salaries of the firm8217;s employees, at Tardeo this afternoon.
Nandkishore Tendulkar, a manager with Essar Company located at K K Marg at Tardeo, hadwithdrawn the money from American Express Bank at Nariman Point and was heading in a taxi towards his office. Two persons hijacked the taxi as it reached Tardeo after threatening the occupants with coppers.
Award for B R Chopra
Noted filmmaker and director B R Chopra will be conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award8217; by the Indian Film Directors8217; Association IFDA on Thursday for his contribution to Indian cinema. Chopra, who has made 33 feature films, three telefilms and eight teleserials, including Mahabharata, will be felicitated by the chairman of the ZEE network, Subhash Chandra. A book on Chopra8217;s life will also be released on the occasion.
