Dengue, typhoid at Manori
Traces of dengue antigens, viral fever and typhoid were found in blood samples sent for inspection by BMC following the outbreak of a mysterious illness in Manori last month. The ten blood samples sent to Pune-based National Institute of Virology confirmed that eight persons were suffering from regular viral infection, and two had symptoms of mild dengue. Among 58 blood samples sent to Bhagwati Hospital, Borivli, ten revealed the typhoid virus. Mayor Nandu Satam today said the illness was caused mainly dueto unseasonal rains, wetting of dried fish which resulted in spread of mosquitoes, other disease-causing organisms and poor hygiene.
