PUNE, MARCH 9:: Efforts are on at a war footing to repair mechanical failure at eight power systems including those at Mumbai and Koyna so that normal electric supply can be restored to Pune. This is expected to take four days. While no load-shedding was reported during the day, the peak hours from 7.30 pm to 10 pm cannot be vouched for till repair of mechanical failure in generation sets is complete, said S M Wakhare, assistant engineer, Maharashtra State Electricity Board. The past three days have seen excessive load-shedding in the city, the situation becoming particularly bad for students because of the on going examinations.

A concentrated effort is being made to not let load-shedding exceed half an hour in one locality, said Wakhare, but this inconvenience would have to be put up with till repair work was complete. 8220;We cannot assure normalcy till then because overloading or any fault in the generating sets would mean interrupted supply. We will be switching off feeder lines all over the city for half hour each in rotation,8221; said Wakhare.

Mechanical failure in generating systems had lead to the load-shedding, he explained.
