Barcelona, April 15: Spain'S Carlos Moya just managed to prevent a 1-2-3 exodus from the Barcelona Open yesterday as he edged out compatriot German Puentes 6-3 4-6 6-3 in an enthralling centre court battle. But the number two seed, still troubled by the thumb injury which forced him out of the Indian Open in Chennai last week, said after the match he could yet have to withdraw from the tournament. On another day of surprise results only Moya, Britain's Tim Henman and defending champion Todd Martin survived from the top seven seeds.Injuries were the story of the day with Pete Sampras backing out before striking a ball in anger and Moya threatening to follow suit. With Yevgeny Kafelnikov also making an early exit, beaten in straight sets by Franco Squillari, the three-way shoot-out for the World Number One ranking which spiced up the build-up to the tournament was in danger of turning into farce. Sampras injured his back in a doubles match with Henman.Easy for EnqvistTokyo: Swedishnumber three seed Thomas Enqvist rolled over Canadian Daniel Nestor today to pull out an easy 6-2, 6-2 victory at the Japan Open.Enqvist took advantage of early service breaks and Nestor's patchy serve to win the match in just over an hour.Enqvist said that he played an almost `perfect match' against Nestor, who beat fellow Swede Mikael Tillstrom in the second round. Number one seed Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands faces German No. 16 seed David Prinosil in the third round.Schnyder outGeneva: Swiss team officials have dropped Patty Schnyder off the Federation Cup team before this weekend's match with Slovakia.Rainer Harnecker, the boyfriend for whom Schnyder has virtually cut off all relations with her parents, had told Swiss officials that Schnyder did not want to practice with her team-mates and would only return for her singles match.
