The crime branch of the Pune city police arrested three persons and detained three minor boys in connection with the armed robbery at Mahavir Jewellers in Shewalewadi area near Hadapsar in Pune city.
Police said the accused had allegedly looted gold and silver ornaments by pointing sharp weapons at the jewellery shop owner Mahendra Solanki around 5.30pm on January 3.
After the robbers fled the spot on two-wheelers, Solanki lodged an FIR case at the Manjari police station.
During investigation, the police teams checked CCTV cameras installed at the jewellery shop and other locations. Police said the robbers had covered their faces with masks.
Based on clues obtained during the probe, the crime branch sleuths, led by inspector Chhagan Kapse, assistant inspectors C D Berad and Madan Kamble, sub-inspectors S J Tanawde and Abhijit Pawar laid a trap and nabbed a minor, along with his two accomplices Pravin Mahadev Shinde (18) of Fursungi and Bhavesh Rajesh Chavan (20) of Hadapsar, on Sunday evening.
Their interrogation revealed the involvement of three more suspects, including two minors and one Rajdeep Jagtap (21) of Loni Kalbhor. Accordingly, police nabbed the three accused at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
Police said 224.92 grams of gold and 183 grams of silver ornaments have been seized from the accused. The three minor accused were sent to an observation home as per the legal procedure. The other three accused were arrested under Sections 310(2) and 312 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
A police team headed by senior police inspector Babasaheb Nikam of the Manjari police station is investigating the case.
