The golfing fraternity has joined legendary athlete Milkha Singh in his tirade for the representation of sportspersons in Rajya Sabha. The overwhelming support which Milkha received from all corner of the country was followed by his meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani along with sporting stalwarts like Bishan Bedi, Indu Puri, Dinesh Khanna.

At home too Milkha has received strong support. His son and country’s top golfer Jeev, who is taking a week off from his hectic professional golf schedule on the Japanese and Nationwide Tours, is in total agreement with his father. ‘‘As a sportsman, I totally support the cause. I think it is time that the country’s leading ambassadors get the deserved recognition, at the highest level in the country,’’ he said. Not just that the golfing community of the Chandigarh Golf Course, as well as the Delhi Golf Course too has thrown their weight behind Milkha.

With sportspeople coming under one umbrella for this campaign, Milkha is deeply touched. ‘‘Members of the Delhi Golf Course have approached me and said that I was fighting for a just cause. Ever since I first met Advaniji, I have received calls from Canada, USA and UK encouraging me in my effort,’’ said a delighted Milkha.

Next on Milkha’s agenda is the appointment with the Prime Minister. The golden oldie clarifies that he had brought up this issue during the Narsimha Rao government but he insists, ‘‘he will keep the fight on.’’
