My best friend is such a matchmaker, last week he went and asked his ma-in-law to look for a boy for me. This lady eyed him sceptically and asked him if I was anything like Manisha in Saans. My pal was livid that she had the audacity to question my credentials. He came fuming to me and narrated the incident. I just burst out laughing and told him that I took his sasuma8217;s remarks as compliments for my life-like portrayal in the serial,8221; narrates Kavita Kapoor sipping piping hot tea at a suburban eatery of her choice.
These are the kind of rewards that she8217;s looking for, she says. As for autograph hunters and fan mail she denies having either. And when yours truly suggested a quieter place than a public eatery for the rendezuvous lest she gets mobbed, she overruled the objection with a curt, 8220;You must be kidding, no one gets mobbed in Mumbai. I am sure even Madhuri and Amitabh Bachchan won8217;t be mobbed here. And then I can just keep people off with a quelling look.8221; Brr. that8217;s something.
Whether it was diamonds or a foot cream, there8217;s no denying that Kavita8217;s campaigns made an impact. However, of late it appears that modelling has taken a back seat and she is concentrating on acting. 8220;I am not being offered too many ads these days because they feel I am too tied down with my acting assignments but that8217;s not true at all. I am game for commercials any day,8221; she clarifies.
With a face that has literally launched a thousand products, she must have gained easy access to the showbiz? 8220;Not at all. I have worked really hard to get here,8221; she declares triumphantly. 8220;And you needn8217;t be beautiful to be an actress. If you will look around there are more beauties out of the movies than in it,8221; she points out.
Coming to acting when was it that she chose acting as her medium of her expression? 8220;I was interested in acting right from the childhood. I participated in all the cultural shows organised at school and college level,8221; she reminisces. It transpires that the family was opposed to her decision to be an actress, but her mother stood by her solidly and Kavita had her way.
Kavita debuted as the leading lady of the non-starter video flick Jeena Teri Gali Mein. But she doesn8217;t want to go into the past. She was later noticed for her spectacular commercials that landed her a role in Neena Gupta8217;s serial Saans. 8220;None of us had anticipated this kind of success,8221; she confesses. 8220;The script and direction is mainly responsible for its success,8221; she surmises. 72 episodes aired, the serial is planned for 104 episodes. 8220;But if the TRP8217;s remain as high as this, who knows we may go on and on,8221; she muses. She enjoys her role immensely and she says the strength of the character lies in the fact that Manisha is so vulnerable and real, in spite of being the 8220;other8221; woman she8217;s not painted as the evil husband snatcher.
Just Mohabbat is the other serial that features her as the doting mama of a growing boy. 8220;Oh, I just love kids. I become one among with them. I can proudly say that most of my fans are those little wonders,8221; she says with a twinkle in eye.She is looking for variety as well as substance in the roles that are coming her way. Next she will be seen on a rib-tickling comedy entitled Mard Bechare. Her initial misadventure in cinema has some how put her off the larger screen, isn8217;t she open to film offers now. 8220;I have a long way to go. If I get a substantial role in the films, why not?8221; she says. And as of now topmost on her priority is the welfare of her family.
Academically inclined, Kavita pursued legal studies and qualified as a lawyer. But she was not destined to wear the black robe and argue cases, she was meant to dazzle the screen with her incinerating gaze. Her legal knowledge may be relegated to the back of her mind right now. 8220;But later sometime I am sure I can utilise it,8221; she states.
