Living with your Cat: Living with a cat requires a degree of compromise from both you and the animal. Don8217;t let your cat treat you as cook, nurse and janitor. Discipline is necessary not only for your convenience but also for the cats good. Attempts to train the cat should begin early and be consistent.
Be firm but gentle. A severe tone of voice or at the most a tap on the flanks should be the maximum punishment. Try not to use your cat8217;s name when scolding it, so that when you call it, its name will have only happy associations.
The rules you make will be up to you. You may forbid jumping onto shelves and tables, or asking for titbits at mealtimes. If a cat pesters for food at the table ignore it. If it reaches up, push it down. Do not weaken! If you want to stop a cat from jumping up lift it down whenever it tries to do so. And say bad cat8217; or any standard punishment8217; word sternly. Reprove it when you think it is about to jump up. Eventually, with perseverance you will win. But your rules may not apply in your absence!
Adoption: Two adult female cats called Maa and Masi, and a male kitten need a new home due to their owner8217;s illness.
