MUMBAI, April 14: A 73-run fifth wicket partnership between Amit Dhulap and Deepa Jadhav helped defending champions MIG Cricket club beat Vijay Cricket club by five wickets. MIG thus retained the Mahim-Dadar Cricket Shield on home ground at Bandra, today.
MIG won the toss and decided to field. The decision bore fruit when Vijay CC were restricted to 158 in 44 overs. Onkar Khanvilkar was the top scorer with 30.
While for MIG, medium pacer Manish Sakhalkar did the restricting job and managed to scalp four at the cost of 39 runs. Digvijay Singh played the supporting role with aplomb, taking two for just 14 runs. Together, the two laid the foundation for their batsmen to work on.
MIG openers Sandesh Paralkar 26 and S Panikar 11 gave them a good start with an opening wicket stand of 38 runs. However, disaster was just a short distance away.
Within the addition of the next 39 runs, MIG lost four quick wickets and were staring down the barrel of trouble at 77 for four.
However, the fifth wicket pairproved that MIG were merely hit not knocked-out when they took their team to victory. Dhulap8217;s unbeaten knock of 42 had four hits to the boundary while Jadhav hit a quick 39 off 47 balls including a six and four hits to the ropes.
The victory was achieved in 34 overs with Sriram Kanan8217;s sterling efforts going waste for Vijay CC. Kanan grabbed two MIG wickets at the expense of 44 runs, but failed to deliver the killer punch which would have helped his team to do better than the runner-up position which they got at the end.
While Dhulap was declared the best batsman, Sakhalkar got the best bowler award for the final.
