CHANDIGARH, Oct 6: DAV College, Hoshiarpur and DAV MCM College, Chandigarh, with 65 and 73 points won titles in the men8217;s and women8217;s section, respectively, in the Panjab University Inter-College swimming championship at the PU Swimming Pool here today. Madhav Sund of Government College, Ludhiana and Kirandeep of local MCM DAV College continued their domination in the pool in the men8217;s and women8217;s group. Both also emerged best swimmers in the meet and were awarded Rs 500 each.

Madhav broke second meet mark today which came in the 200-metre freestyle event. He clocked 2:18.91 to erase the old meet record of 2:20.47 established last year by Aseem Parmar of DAV College, Hoshiarpur. Aseem, however, in the race today could not sustain the pace set by Madhav and was distant second in 2:32.93. Ajit Sharma of SD College, Chandigarh was third in 2:38.77.

Aseem Parmar, who trailed Madhav in most of the events yesterday, came up with a sterling performance in the 50-metre freestyle event to win first place in 27.93 seconds pushing Madhav to second spot who clocked 28.03. Rajwinder Singh of DAV College, Chandigarh took the third position with 28.92.

Aseem was also winner of the 400-metre freestyle and 400-metre individual medley events.

In the men8217;s section second place went to the Government College, Hoshiarpur with 49 points. DAV College Chandigarh, winner of the men8217;s title in the last edition of the meet were pushed third spot with 43 points. Their lone gold in the meet came in the 4 X 200 metres freestyle relay.

In the women8217;s category Government College, Ludhiana secured 68 points to win the second place. Government College-Sector 11 with 9 points were third.

Kirandeep added two gold medals more in her kitty of eight she won yesterday. Today she got first place in 200-metre freetyle and 100-metre butterfly events.
