CHANDIGARH, Aug 5: In an anti-encroachment drive, the enforcement staff of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh today removed 100 odd unauthorised pig pens from public parks in Indira Colony near Manimajra here.

The drive, assisted by the local police, began at 12 noon and lasted for 3 hours, and was supervised by the Assistant Commissioner Ashok Vashist. JCV, trucks and other machinery were also pressed into service. However, no untoward incident was reported during the course of action.

The MC officials told Newsline that the parks have been encroached upon by residents for commercial use for years together. These encroachments were removed and residents were warned.
