BULAWAYO, OCT 21: Neil Johnson scored his second consecutive century against Australia but still finished on the losing side today as Zimbabwe fell by 83 runs in the first of three One-Day Internationals.

Johnson followed up his brilliant unbeaten 132 against the world champions at the World Cup in June with an equally fine 110, but the next highest score was just 27 and an upset never seemed likely.

Mark Waugh’s 13th ODI century and some big hitting by Damien Martyn boosted Australia to an impressive 303 for six. Three wickets apiece for Damien Fleming and Andrew Symonds helped reduce Zimbabwe to 220.

Opener Waugh cruised effortlessly to 50 from 48 deliveries before hammering an outclassed attack to make 106 (96 b, 11×4, 2×6). Ricky Ponting was dropped twice during his more sedate innings of 67 off 90 balls then Martyn profited handsomely from the solid platform with a bruising 57 not out (38b, 7×4, 1×6).
