A widely publicised March to Tibet, organised by five non-governmental organisations of Tibetans living in exile, has run into rough weather as the Kangra District Superintendent of Police-cum-Foreigners Registration Officer has served notices to at least 100 core marchers directing them not to leave the territorial jurisdiction of Dharamsala town till further order.
According to sources, the district police served the notices to the marchers at the Saranh monastery situated in the lower Dharamsala under Section 3 2 e ii of the Foreigners Act, 1946 late on Monday evening. The notices said if they did not comply with the order suitable legal action would be taken under law. When contacted on phone, district police chief Atul Fulzele confirmed that the notices had been served to the marchers following an advisory from the Centre. Earlier, hundreds of Tibetans, began the march to Tibet on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the National Tibetan Uprising. It began from the main Buddhist temple here soon after the function was over.
